ABOUT THE SHOW:
The swampland of Louisiana is hit with the most massive oil spill known to history. Barnacle, an old sea turtle, fights against man’s destruction, nature’s wrath, and her enemies of the wild to save her children trapped in the spill. Poetry, allegory, music, puppetry and movement create this magical world as the animals of Louisiana face the ultimate threat to their lives.
CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:
BARNACLE: Female, 40+, Any Ethnicity. A maternal figure who goes on a journey of defiance to find her rage. Familiarity with the New Orleans accent and Strong singing voice highly preferred.
GULLET: Male, 35+, Any Ethnicity. An enormous seagull, a savage killer. Also has a caustic, self-satisfied nature and a sense of humor. Speaks in iambic pentameter. Shakespeare background a plus.
WEED: Male, 18-25, Any Ethnicity. Barnacle's son. Filled with anger, hidden vulnerability.
DAEDALUS: Male, 30s, Any Ethnicity. Charming and excitable dolphin who takes himself very seriously. Singing voice a plus.
FOAM: Female, 18-25, Any Ethnicity. Has had a rough past but maintains hope and fierce temper. Singing voice & movement/dance experience a plus
SHEEPSHEAD/CLAM: Female, 60+, Any Ethnicity. Cold, malicious with strong sense of language.
BLUE HERON/TEARS: Female, 30-50, Any Ethnicity. A predator, strong sense of self, scene stealer. Singing voice a plus.
CHARMER/PAD: Male, 25-40, Any Ethnicity. A snake & a frog. Smooth talker, strong comedic timing. Strong dancing skills necessary & strong singing voice a plus.
SEA URCHIN/BLUE/LILY: Female, 20-30, Any Ethnicity. Sweet sensibility, caring, emotive. Dancing and trapeze/lyra/pole/aerial fabric skills a plus.
