"Inferno. Hades. The Netherworld. The Abyss. Perdition. The E train in New York City after midnight. No matter what term you use for “Hell”, chances are that you’ll never find an underworld as sexy, or as funny, or as inspiring as the one brought to you by Manhattan Theatre Works and Goode Productions in David Stallings’ Anais Nin Goes To Hell. In the words of the titular character (played by Amanda Jones), “If this is Hell, Hell is Heaven!” The audience will feel the same way with this deliciously decadent new theater piece."
-Jed Ryan, The Huffington Post "With equal parts gravitas and wit, flowers into a richly imagined garden of passions, philosophy, and humor... Manhattan Theatre Works goes out in style with this, its final production, with a fine creative team and an excellent cast." -Jon Sobel, BlogCritics "It would be tempting for a set-up like this to descend into pure camp playing fast and loose with history, but Stallings and director Antonio Minino wisely keep the production grounded in emotional reality and well of sadness that lies in all of the characters’ hearts... Let the magic of Anaïs Nin Goes to Hell set you free." -Lisa Huberman, New York Theatre Review "Anais Nin Goes to Hell is an intellectually charged play with the potential to be a masterpiece on the awakening of feminism... The complexity of this play results in an almost painfully honest fantasia of strong female figures in the underworld." -Ran Xia, Theatre Is Easy "A salacious complex satire on women’s rights, desires, and society’s expectations of the female sex... David Stallings should be commended for writing a piece that has amazing female parts that are so flushed out and human." -Kaila M. Stokes, Theater in the Now |
